Legal Torrent Technology Paves The Way For Media Innovation

18 Apr

Most of us use torrent clients like Ares Galaxy and uTorrent to download movies, music, software, and much more. In this respect, torrents have become an essential part of the online experience. However, there are several ways in which the torrent protocol is now being used by companies and websites around the world to streamline their media distribution methods.

In other words: P2P in general, and torrents in particular, are becoming a staple technology for media innovators. According to the experts there are two main ways in which Ares Galaxy or Ares Download and other torrent clients can play a legitimate and central role in the evolution of media in the early 21st century.

Ares Galaxy As A Discovery Platform

What we mean by ‘discovery platform’ is an online platform that helps people find and discover new media content they would otherwise not have come into contact with. Websites can be discovery platforms, and so can forums, chatrooms, television, church, and pretty much anything that is in any way connected to communication.

With respect to torrent technology, there are two possible approaches. The two approaches are embodied by the two main contenders for the title of best torrent client: Ares Galaxy or Ares Free Download and uTorrent.

uTorrent’s approach is one of discovery through features, advertisements and other producer-led methods. Both the uTorrent website and the latest version of the uTorrent program are now offering ‘featured content’: advertisements and promotions of content, based on your previous downloading behaviour.

Ares Galaxy’s approach is one of discovery through peer-communication. Ares Galaxy allows you to communicate with other users of the program through its integrated chatroom function. In these chatrooms, people discuss and recommend media content, and bowse and download what these individuals are sharing directly.

If you think about it, this difference in approach to media is similar to the different approaches that Google and Facebook take when it comes to all online content: Google (uTorrent) organizes content and lets you discover it based on what you input in the search box while Facebook (Ares Galaxy) users get most of their recommendations through social interactions with the other members of the network.

Media innovators are using both methods to popularize their content. In uTorrent’s case it’s led by producers and in that of Ares Galaxy by consumers.
